WHAT THE EXPLOSION COULD NOT DO

The Explosion Next Door

On Friday, October 11, around 10:20 AM in Dansoman, Russia, I was preparing for my daily assignment when chaos erupted. I heard screams and cries coming from my neighbors, who owned two shops—a provision store and a TV repair shop. Curiosity and concern propelled me outside to witness the scene unfolding before me.

A fire had broken out, transforming the atmosphere of our neighborhood. Dark clouds loomed overhead, while red flames danced dangerously from the shops. Despite multiple attempts to contact the Ghana National Fire Service, help was nowhere in sight. In desperation, the neighbors banded together, trying to quench the flames with whatever water they could find.

With my camera in hand, I captured the fiery chaos, the frantic efforts of my neighbors, and the palpable sorrow of the shop owners. Among them was the owner of the provision shop, whose story struck me deeply. She had recently returned from a severe dog bite injury and was relying on her shop to fund her recovery. Now, standing amid the devastation, she cried out in despair, “I have no hope. This is the end of my life!”

Her words resonated with me, igniting a sense of urgency. I approached her, reminded of the importance of resilience. I said, “All hope is not lost. You are still alive, and every day is a chance to rebuild.”

While the explosion may have destroyed her livelihood, it couldn’t extinguish her spirit. Each day presents an opportunity to rise again, to adapt, and to persevere. fire service was there to quench the remaining flames .

In moments like these, we’re reminded that while tragedy can strike unexpectedly, our ability to recover and hope for a brighter future remains unscathed. THIS IS WHAT THE EXPLOSION COULD NOT DO .
